East of Ireland Junior Open

Thanks to everyone who made our Junior Open a huge success. Ciaran McCarthy took on the role as tournament director and did a brilliant job. It was long hours and a lot of work but the whole event ran very smoothly.

Thanks as well to our tournament committee of Rob Turpin, Orna Morrissey and Barbara Reamsbottom. Thanks as well to Eamon, Gerry, all the spotters, umpires young and old, the bar staff, the afternoon tea guys, they guys in the tuck shop and anyone else who helped through the week.

2024 saw our biggest entry ever with 379 players since the return of the Open in 2012. Given the Irish summer we were blessed with only two rainy days but that didn’t stop us getting through all the matches.

Junior Club Champs 2024

The biggest junior week of the summer runs from August 12th - 16th. We will make sure every kid gets loads of tennis no matter your level. The tournament runs from 10am - 5pm Monday to Friday.

Every kid that enters gets a T-shirt & goody bag along with a Burger on finals day.

Generation Game 2024

To kick off our Junior Club Champs, the Generation Game will take place from 2pm-4pm on Sunday 11th August.

This is a junior social event where a junior member plays with an adult - parents, grannys, grandads, aunts, uncles, older sibling (Over 18yrs) family friends all welcome!!!!

Online entry is now open for our home Senior Open.  This is a chance for our players to compete in a senior open in their home club.  This popular tournament has gone from strength to strength and attracts a capacity entry from players throughout the country

Players must be available to play on the first weekend and as scheduled throughout the week.  Play takes place in the evenings from 5pm.  This is a licensed Tennis Ireland ranking event.

Summer Handicaps Open for Entry

Entry for the Summer Handicaps for members  is open online on ti.tournamentsoftware.com.   Entry will remain open until Friday 26 July.    Finals will take place on our At Home day in September along with the finals of our Senior Club Championships.

For Intermediate & Senior Sports members 

There is no entry fee being charged for the Summer Handicaps this year as announced by our Captains, Susan Bracken and Conor McAvoy at the start of their captaincy

There are five events in this tournament: Mens Singles and Doubles, Ladies Singles and Doubles and Mixed Doubles.

New shortened format:  best of 3 sets - first to 6 games in each set.

Handicaps will be assigned to the players by the Tennis Committee and players organise their own matches up to and including semi-finals   Finals will be scheduled.   Click on the link below to entry

Tennis & BBQ Fundraiser Saturday 10th August for the Attracta O’Regan Phd Research Scholarship

On behalf of our long-time member Ultan Bannon and the extended Bannon family we are running a tennis fundraiser on 10th August to raise funds for the Attracta O’Regan Phd Scholarship for research into the early detection of ovarian cancer.

This research scholarship has been established in memory of Ultans lovely wife Attracta, much loved mum to Ian, Yvonne, Alecia and Cuan and member of SLTC who passed away in July 2023 from ovarian cancer.

In September 2024, Ultan is organising a group, including members of SLTC, who are embarking on a self-funded cycle from Paris to Nice to raise €150,000.    All monies raised and donations received will go to fund this research scholarship

As the courts are getting busier with the summer season,  we ask players who book courts and cannot avail of their booking to cancel on the system. This allows other members to book the cancelled court.

Tennis Camps

**Next Tennis Camp July 29th to August 2nd**  Spaces still available!

Our tennis camps are now live on smartclubcloud.com The Camps are open to members and non members aged 5 to 12. All levels can join. Non members can try tennis for the week and see if they like it. 

Camps run 9am - 1pm each day and are led by our professional coaches from Sutton LTC.

We have some changes to our senior competition calendar this year. All your favourite comps are still there but note the dates now of the handicaps and the masters. In particular we are bringing the masters events into the warmer part of the year so all that great tennis will be played in warm sunshine now!

Update your Tournament Software Account

As our busy tennis calendar gets underway we are asking players and parents/guardians of our junior players  to log into their ti.tournament software accounts and check that all details i.e. Club, email address and mobile numbers are up-to-date.

In particular, please ensure that your mobile number is in the mobile number field in your account.  This will ensure that you will receive text updates during tournaments when necessary.

To change Club on your account please email info@tennisireland.ie to request a change to Sutton LTC from your previous club

Please see the hooks now provided for our clay court drag mats. Please leave them on the hooks after use to protect the bristles. 

If any member notices any issues with the courts i.e. broken net bands etc please report the fault to the office and it will be repaired.

Padel Social Nights Continue

The first Padel social night for members took place on Wednesday 10th July from 7pm-10pm. Our Club Captain Conor McAvoy and Lady Captain Susan Bracken was on hand to rotate the players on and off our new courts. Feedback from members has been very positive. Continued social evenings have been added to smart club cloud on Wednesday evenings with two time slots available, please ensure to book via your club app if you would like to attend.

SENIOR SQUASH

CONSIDERING SENIOR SQUASH LEAGUE

Each year we enter Senior Squash League Teams in the Leinster Squash Leagues Competition. Sutton pride themselves in the fact that we have committed and strong League Teams and featured for many years in the winning circle. We had a very successful season 2023/24 and hope to enter more teams this year.

Mens Teams are made up of 5 players and Ladies 4 players. It is a great opportunity to compete as a team in such an individual sport. Matches are Home and Away throughout Leinster and run from October until approximately March/April and it is followed by Cup Competition, which is a knockout system.

It is important to get commitments from players who will make themselves available for the matches each week both home and away. There are many divisions of different standards from Premier to Division 6.

JUNIOR SQUASH COACHING – FORMS OUT NOW

The Junior Squash Coaching forms are available now. Coaching starts the week beginning Monday 2nd September. Classes run on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 3.00 p.m. to 6.00 p.m.

Course runs on a six week rollover basis at a cost of €65 for the six weeks.

Get your requests in early to avoid disappointment. Numbers are limited and standard based and payment must accompany form.
