Success for Una McEntee in the Irish Masters Indoor Championships, Belfast

The Irish Masters Indoor Championships took place in Belfast and was an ITF ranking event, last weekend from Friday 16 - Monday 19 February

Congratulations to Una McEntee who won the Women's Doubles 1500 Over 60 event partnered by Gemma O Rourke (David Lloyd)

We have some changes to our senior competition calendar this year. All your favourite comps are still there but note the dates now of the handicaps and the masters. In particular we are bringing the masters events into the warmer part of the year so all that great tennis will be played in warm sunshine now!

Junior Winter Club Champs

We had two fantastic days of tennis with more than 80 juniors competing across all the events. The tournament was run with no age categories and boys and girls played in the same draw by level. Huge thanks to Charlie McKeever who assigned all matches to the courts while also fielding hundreds of questions from the kids looking to know when their next match is! Thanks to Sophie O’ Connor for running the red and orange ball event along with showcasing all the best bits on our Instagram page.

Mid Term Opens

Congratulations to Ciaran Mckenna who won the Boys U16 Tour 500 singles at the Wallace Park Junior Open. Ciaran came through 4 tight matches to take the title. The final came down to the championship tie break. 

Linus Burke made the semi finals of the Tour 200 in Sutton in the boys U14

DLTC Winter League - Week 4 Report

Winter league resumed after the break for mid-term last weekend with wins for the Ladies 4th, 6th and 7th teams.  The Men's 3rds, 4ths and 5th teams also recorded wins.  Valuable points gained by our teams  heading into the last round robin matches this weekend.  Best of luck to all teams on Sunday

Leinster Junior League

Leinster junior league for our Under 12, Under 15 and Under 18 players starts this week and runs until May on Sunday afternoons.  Best of luck to all our junior players taking part in this league

Ladies Wednesday Morning Time Tennis -  

Ladies Time Tennis takes place every Wednesday morning from 11am - 1pm

Following a successful trial the use of indoor courts will continue for the remainder of this Airhall season. 

All ladies welcome and we hope to see lots of new faces, especially new members during February

Junior Tennis Coaching Programme 

Our February Junior Coaching Term has started. Thank you to everyone who has signed up.

Players can still join classes now but will only be charged from the week they start.

The final week of term is April 8th (after Easter holidays). All players in the current term will have 1st preference on places for this coming term.

Due to school and public holidays please note the dates of this term. No coaching the weeks of February 12th (mid term break) or weeks of March 25th and April 1st (Easter break).  No coaching on Monday February 5th or Monday March 18th. 

Monday Classes  - 6 week term. Adjusted due to public holidays

Tuesday to Saturday Classes - 8 week term.

Please see the hooks now provided for our clay court drag mats. Please leave them on the hooks after use to protect the bristles. 

If any member notices any issues with the courts i.e. broken net bands etc please report the fault to the office and it will be repaired.

JUNIOR SQUASH

3 NATIONAL JUNIOR TITLES FOR SUTTON SQUASH

Congratulations to:

Conal Jackson - Winner - BOYS U/17 TITLE

Zoe Yeomans - Winner - GIRLS U/17 TITLE

Lucy Walsh - Winner - GIRLS U/15 TITLE

Conal beat fellow club member Christian Dromgoole in a tense final against these two fast players. In a match lasting 47 minutes these young men show tremendous skill on court in a fair battle. Conal won 3/1 (11-4, 7-11, 11-9, 11-3)

Zoe started slowly with a 1/11 defeat in the first game but never showed any signs of worry. She won the next game but her opponent came back in the 3rd and this match was brought to the fifth game. Zoe showed no weakness in the final game outplaying her opponent winning 3/2 in 31 mins. (1-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-4)

Lucy Walsh played Sutton's Rebecca Jackson in the final of the Girls U/15. This was a tightly contested match with Lucy winning 3/0 (5-11, 5-11, 8-11) (20m)

Superb weekend of squash with lots more prize winners.

In Second place, Tristan Snodgrass played Ireland NO:1 seed Danny Lynch from Galway. This was a fantastic match to watch and had us all on the edge of our seats. The Boys traded games and once again we were teated to a 5 game humdinger. Tristan lost 11/8 in the 5th game.
