To top off a great year in SLTC, Rob Turpin, Tennis Director, has qualified as a Level 4 Performance Level Tennis Ireland Coach. In addition to his award this year for Leinster Coach of the Year 2022, Rob has been working away behind the scenes to achieve this prestigious qualification. Long hours of study, written and practical exams have paid off. Congratulations Rob - great achievement

Members who play squash are most welcome to play tennis or squash on the day and join their fellow members for breakfast and a chat afterwards.

If playing squash, players should book their own squash courts and sign up for the breakfast only time of their choice.

There is a breakfast only option for Pavilion, Pavilion Gym & Club House members and for those who aren't playing tennis. Why not have a workout in the gym or a game of snooker followed by a fry-up

Christmas Junior Tennis Event Friday 15th December 

We welcomed over 150 children last Friday for their Christmas tennis event.   A big thank you to Helen Holden and her crew of volunteers who organised the event and all the parents who helped on the day.   Volunteers are key to the success of these events.    The atmosphere on court was electric with activities organised by Rob Turpin and his coaches followed by pizza & goodies in the Club House..   Happy Christmas to all our junior members

Ladies Wednesday Morning Time Tennis  - Christmas Lunch and new January time

Ladies Time Tennis is taking a break for Christmas and will resume on Wednesday 10th January at the new time of 11am - 1pm.    

This time change is to accommodate trial access for this official Club Event to indoor courts for a 4 week period after which the trial will be reviewed.

All ladies welcome and we hope to see lots of new faces in January

Last Wednesday 13th December, Carmel GIllespie organised the Time Tennis Ladies Christmas lunch.   The ladies enjoyed their game of tennis and the courts were brightened up on the day with festive Christmas jumpers, hats and decorations.  Tennis was followed by lunch in the Lounge.

Sincere thanks to Carmel Gillespie for running this club event for the 2023 season and also to all her volunteers who came on board to fill in when she had a well earned day off.

Davis Cup

Tickets for the Davis Cup fixture between Ireland & Austria sold out in record time and we hope some of our members were lucky enough to get tickets.   If we get news of a further ticket release we will let you know.

Junior Tennis Coaching Programme 

Junior Tennis Coaching finished last week for the Christmas Holidays' We have no coaching the weeks of December 18th, 25th or January 1st. The classes resume the week of January 8th.

January 8th is the continuation of the current term. No need to sign up again. A new term will start the week of January 29th.

Please see the hooks now provided for our clay court drag mats. Please leave them on the hooks after use to protect the bristles. 

If any member notices any issues with the courts i.e. broken net bands etc please report the fault to the office and it will be repaired.

17^th PLACE FINISH AT MENS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

ENDING ON A HIGH

Another win for our lads in New Zealand at the Men's World Championships. Ireland beat the Netherlands in the final match finishing in 17th place. After landing the hardest draw in the event the team held together to win the remaining matches strongly.

Well done to our Sutton players Sam Buckley, Oisin Logan and Michael Creaven along with fellow Irish Player Sean Conroy.

Thanks to The Sports Surgery Clinic, Cassidy Travel and EventHaus for the financial support and Sponsorship. Thanks to all the donations which were invaluable and thanks to everyone who donated gifts for the raffle.

Without these funds this journey would not have happened. It was solely dependent on sponsorship and donations. What a superb achievement.

JUNIOR SQUASH

US JUNIOR SQUASH OPEN 2023 - RESULTS

Christian Dromgoole played in the Boys U/15 section and reaching the 3^rd round Christian lost to Yassin Kouritam in the Top 32. The next round was for 21^st – 32^nd places and Christian was awarded a walkover when his opponent was forced to retired. Next match was against opponent Reed Morris from New York. This was a very tight tough match with Christian taking the first 2 games and narrowly losing 11/6 in the fifth.

Due to the number in the draws there are no more playoffs at this stage and Christian finished in 21^st-24^th position out of a total of 120 entrants. Not bad at all. Well done Christian.

Tyler Dromgoole played in the Boys U/17 Section. He put in a great effort in his second match losing 8/11, 14/16, 6/11. Tyler won his next match against Ciaran Manning of Australia in a five setter (2/11, 11/7, 7/11, 11/9, 11/6). Next up V Hector Durbach from South Africa which Tyler lost in 3. Finishing in 105-112 place of 128 entrants.

Tristan Snodgras played in the Boys U/19 Section. Tristan came up against Top seed Ewan Harris from Florida in his first round losing 3/0. He lost his next match 3/1 against Milo Friedman from Los Angeles. Tristan won his next 3 matches 3/0 and finished in places 101/102 out of 128 entrants.

So much experience for these players having an opportunity to play juniors from all over the world and varying styles.

Well Done to all. Bring home that experience now and keep up the good work.

We have published the NEW Junior Round Robins for you on the SLTC Booking System as before. You have until mid January to complete matches.

This is a vital part of the Squash Coaching Programme and we hope you will all make a huge effort to play your matches.

They will be renewed each month and there will be a promotion / relegation system in place. One Up-One Down.

Lots of matches were not completed the last time so I really hope you can play. Email any results to me or submit them on the booking system.

Scoring is best of 5 games, each game to 11.
