Fitzwilliam 2023

What a fantastic week for some of our juniors competing in the William Fry Junior Lawn Tennis Championships of Ireland in Fitzwilliam LTC!

A massive congratulations to Emma Hickey who played a very impressive campaign throughout the week Emma and her partner Matthew Thompson reached the final of the u12 mixed doubles event, as well as this, Emma and her partner Robyn Kennedy reached the final of the girls doubles, only losing 13-11 in the champ tie break.

Emma is now ranked no.1 in Ireland in the girls U12 Doubles!

A big well done to Georgia L’Estrange who played an outstanding tournament last week, reaching the semi finals of the girls u18 singles event! What a great way to finish off junior competitions 

Congrats to Eoin Quinn who reached the quarter finals of the u18 singles event, taking out the number 6 seed along the way in a very entertaining three set, five hour battle!

Well done to Lucy Cahir for coming through two rounds of qualifiers and playing a very tough first round match in u12,great achievement

Well done to Ciarán McKenna who came through qualies and won a first round match in a three set battle!

Congratulations to Sally Flynn and Charlotte Maguire who reached the quarter finals of u16 doubles event, only losing 6-4/7-6 to the 4th seeds!

Well done to William Kell who knocked out last years u18 finalist in the first round

Saturday 19th August - Saturday 26th August inclusive

The Sutton LTC Senior Open 2023 sponsored by Adrian Dunne Pharmacy got underway last Saturday morning at 9am and to date over 260 matches have been played.  Play continues each day until the finals take place on Saturday 26th (inclusive).   As a result of the huge entry it has been necessary to start matches at 4pm in the afternoons and continuing each evening with the last matches on court at 9pm

Over the next two nights the Bar have organised a Gin Night on Thursday and a Cocktail Night on Friday - both not to be missed

An email will issue to members daily with the match schedule for that evening.

Tram Chowder will also be on site to provide their usual quality snacks and hot food.

The ITF World Masters O55 & O65 Team Championships in Portugal

Congratulations to Una McEntee on her performance at the ITF World Masters Team Championships in Portugal last week.

Una was selected to represent Ireland on the Womens O.55 team and put in an excellent performance in gaining valuable points for the team.

Sutton  LTC Junior Championships 

Our Junior Championships took place last week with a  record breaking entry of 128 junior players.  

Congratulations to all our junior players who took part in over 21 events and played their matches in a fair and sporting manner.  

The recipient of the Fair Play award this year was Robyn Murphy and she was presented with the cup presented by the Quinn Family in memory of Brendan and Dermot Quinn.

Thank you to Ray & Elizabeth Collier of Howth Meats who are long time supporters of our junior championships and sponsored the BBQ for our junior players

Join us on Thursday 7th Sept for a Tie-break Tens event which is included in entry . Followed by a Consolation Event on Thursday 14th September for first round losers

After a sellout Wimbledon and Mundy evening, we will end the Championship fortnight with our annual At Home BBQ on Saturday 16th September, and for the first time in a long time, a DISCO with the legendary DJ Billy Scurry. Tickets €25 on sale through smartclub via the following link

Summer Programme Finale featuring Colm Dawson’s Family Magic Shoe

Our busy summer programme will finish at the end of next week on Friday 1st September with fun and games on court at 4pm followed by Pizza and the Colm Dawson’s Family Magic Show 

Colm returns to SLTC with his family style show for all ages.

4pm - 5.30pm Kids Tennis & Pizza

6pm Colm Dawson will be on stage with his Magic Show

After the Show Colm will do some close up magic in the bar

€10 per child and parents go free. Members only

Please see the hooks now provided for our clay court drag mats. Please leave them on the hooks after use to protect the bristles. 

If any member notices any issues with the courts ie broken net bands etc please report the fault to the office and it will be repaired.

Ladies Time Tennis will be taking a break for August and will resume in September.

SATURDAY SOCIAL SQUASH

Open to all members, drop down from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m. to hit with others every Saturday. Meet new people to play Squash.

CONSIDERING SENIOR SQUASH LEAGUE

Each year we enter Senior Squash League Teams in the Leinster Squash Leagues Competition. Sutton pride themselves in the fact that we have committed and strong league teams and featured for many years in the winning circle.

Covid played a part in a fall off but we hope to return to our strength and plan to enter teams in the League for September/October. 

Mens Teams are made up of 5 players and Ladies 4 players. It is a great opportunity to compete as a team in such an individual sport. Matches are Home and Away throughout Leinster and run until approximately March/April and it is followed by Cup Competition, which is a knockout system. 

 It is important to get commitments from players who will make themselves available for the matches each week both home and away. There are many divisions of different standards from Premier to Division 6.

 I will be sending out an email soon to gauge interest and I hope we get lots. Keep an eye out and if you have any questions drop in and chat to me.
