Grand Slam Winning Coach in Sutton LTC

Sutton LTC are delighted to welcome ATP Tour coach Dave O'Hare to the club on July 21st. Dave will be putting on a doubles clinic for both juniors and adults.

Dave is the coach of current world number 6 players Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram. Dave has been in their corner for some of the teams biggest achievements including,

ATP Tour finals winners 2022

Ireland is not used to having a representative at the very top of the professional game, and for Dave to have reached the pinnacle of the sport in his role as a coach is something to be truly celebrated.

Senior Opens

Glasnevin Senior Open 2023

Plenty of fantastic results for our seniors over the past week in Glasnevin… loads of late night matches and tight tiebreaks!

The men’s class two doubles event consisted of an all Sutton final! Congratulations to Ciarán McCarthy and Charlie McKeever who beat the McKenna brothers in a very entertaining final.

Ciarán’s victories didn’t stop there…he reached the semi final of the men’s championship event, a big, well deserved achievement. He lost to the number one seed who went on to win the tournament, but a fantastic run for him nonetheless!

Congratulations to Sophie O’Connor and her partner Fernando Garcia Seeber who claimed the XD2 title. They came out on top after a tough week of many tiebreakers and match points down. Two being 18-16 and 14-12, they definitely didn’t fail to entertain the crowds at Glasnevin lawn tennis club!

Liz O’Connor and John Burke were finalists in the XD4 event. They played many late night matches and championship tiebreaks to secure their place in the final. Unfortunately a loss this time but on to the next!

Congratulations to Naomi Cullen and Nessa  Goodman who reached the semi final of the women’s doubles class 4 event! They also played through many tough sets and champ tiebreaks. 

A big well done to all members who took part 

Summer Programme

Our summer programme has been buzzing all week with kids aged 5 to 15 all having the craic on court and playing loads of tennis. More to come next week so make sure to get down!

Ciaran McCarthy is our junior steward this summer and he'll be getting everything going on the courts. We also have a junior whatsapp group where we send out info about what's going on.

The summer fun has begun!!

Junior Team Tennis

Team tennis wrapped up last Friday with fun and games and the presentation of prizes. Well done to Ali and Bens team who topped the table after overtaking Brendan and Carlos’ team in the final few days. Fair play to Charlie and Rob who had the honour of getting soaked by all the kids as their team finished in last place. Well done to all the players who took part. Big thanks to our coaches who gave up their time to run the fun and games and serve the pizza to everyone!

Naas Junior Open 2023

More amazing results coming through from our juniors who competed in Naas last week. 

Congratulations to Linus Burke who won the final of the boy’s u12 100 event. Linus had an amazing campaign all the way to the final where he won 10-6 in the championship tiebreak!

Well done to Emma Hickey who is continuing her streak of finals and collecting the titles one by one. She won 3/3 matches in the girl’s u12 500 event! What a fantastic summer for her so far

An honourable mention to Emily Fitzgibbon, Sally Flynn, Matthew Hickey and Ciarán McKenna who did a great job representing Sutton over the course of the tournament

Greystones Junior Open

Well done to James McGoldrick who reached the final of the boys U14 Tour 500. James was unseeded and won 4 matches knocking out 2 seeded players on his way to the final

Junior ITF

Well done to William Kell who won his 1st main draw match in the international event in Glasnevin. This means William picks up his first points and gets a world ranking under 18

Ladies Wednesday Morning Time Tennis

This social tennis takes place every Wednesday morning at 10am and caters for all level of player.  All existing members and new members  welcome.

Are you a new member, new to tennis, returning to tennis or want to enjoy organised games  - this is the ideal place to take up your racquet and meet other members of SLTC

Our volunteer member, Carmel Gillespie, is on hand every Wednesday to organise the tennis from 10am-12pm.   Tennis is followed by tea/coffee and all are welcome.

Coaches Corner

Slice Backhand

Play in the box with your partner. Only slice backhand is allowed. The challenge is to clip the netcord as the ball travels over the net. This will help keep your slice low and be difficult for your opponent. Aim a little higher when the match starts!

Have you tried the Squash Ball Machine? It is a great way to practice your shots and better your game. Talk to Eoin Ryan for details on how to register.

JUNIOR SQUASH

DYLAN AND TRISTAN HEAD TO AUSTRALIA

Dylan Moran and Tristan Snodgrass are heading to Melbourne, Australia to take part in the World Junior Squash Individual Championships next week.

Tristan will take on Hongkong’s Tsz Shing Tam in his first match on Tuesday and Dylan has a bye in his first match but will play the winner of the previous match also on Tues.

We are delighted to announce that we are now offering personal training sessions at a cheaper rate. 1 session is now €35 per session and 8 sessions is priced at €250 per session. This reduced price is not to be missed.
