    Tournament Results

Great results for the Sutton girls over the weekend. Aisling O' Connor won the Shankhill Indoor open after battling through 4 tough matches. The event brought together some of the countries best players. Ali O' Dea had a great run, only missing out on the final after a champ tie break in the semis.

Emma Hickey travelled to Kilmarnock, Scotland to play her first LTA event on the British Junior Tour and came back as champion after winning the girls U12 event

    Well done guys!

    Coaches Corner

    2nd Serve

Play points only using your second serve..i.e. You don’t have a 1st serve. This is a great exercise for dealing with the pressure we all feel when having to hit our second serve especially during a close match or when we are break point down. The game is also really good practice for the returner who should be looking to practice putting pressure on their opponent in this situation.

    JUNIOR SQUASH

3 FINALISTS IN THE IRISH SQUASH JUNIOR OPEN 2022

If you didn’t make it to Sutton last weekend you missed an amazing weekend of Squash. For those of you who did drop in you would have been welcomed by a Club House and Squash Courts full of visitors from 18 countries all over the world.

The Event was run by Rhonda Moran and Kate Yeomans with many visiting Referees and Eugene Walker as Tournaments Director. The Tournament ran smoothly and we had nothing but compliments from all those who took part. Thanks to everyone responsible.

The standard of Squash was superb and we were delighted to have 3 players contest the finals.

Dylan Moran lost the Boys U/19 in a very tight and explosive squash match of brilliant rallies and technique. Dylan was pipped at the post.

Conal Jackson was beaten by the Scottish No:1 seed John Green and Toby Holman Keogh lost to the No:1 Boys U/13 seed Gustavo Cruz from Portugal.

    Gym tip of the week

If you’ve steered clear of the weight room in the past, now’s the time to get familiar with strength training. Having strong muscles can help prevent injury and help you move better in day-to-day life, whether you’re lifting a moving box or climbing stairs. Strength training also improves your bone density, which is important to prevent fractures and osteoporosis. It also prevents against age-related muscle loss. The natural decrease in muscle mass that happens as you age, which keeps your metabolism humming. Although you probably associate cardiovascular exercise with heart-health benefits, research shows that strength training also helps keep your heart healthy by lowering your blood pressure and improving cholesterol levels.
