Have a plan before the point starts.During a rally there is very little thinking time, so use the time between points to decide how you would like to go about the point. It might not always be possible because your opponent might hit an unexpected shot. However, having a plan will keep you on track with playing the match the way you want to, and making use of the time between points will keep you focused. How to use:1. Decide the style you want to play. Depending on the situation this might change. I like to play a more aggressive style, and therefore I tend to remind myself to keep looking for a suitable ball to attack.2. Make a specific plan. Be exact about what you want to achieve with the first two shots of the rally. Most points in a match are won within the first few shots. A common one is to hit a first serve out wide and then attack to the open court. Have a plan for both first and second serve, as well as receiving first and second serve. Both for serving and receiving, one will generally be more aggressive and one will generally be more neutral/defensive.3. Try to find a balance between sticking with what works and keeping your opponent guessing. You may need to adapt your plan as the match goes on.How to counter:1. Keep an eye on how your opponent is winning their points. If you notice they have a particular tendency off serve or return, make an obvious effort to cover that shot. That will force them to try and win a match with their second-best shot instead of their best shot.2. Strike first. If you are able to get your plan into action first, it will reduce the chance of your opponent being able to implement their plan.Tennis Camps
