    Junior Team Tennis

Junior Team Tennis wrapped up today with a big game of beat the champ and our prize giving. 80 players played over the month with over 50 making it down today! Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents for supporting the event. Thanks to Barbara for making sure all the kids got pizza!
Isobel and Sarah's team were our winners winning by just 6 points from Brendan and Georgia's team. Loads more tennis over the summer with our summer programme and camps.

    Aisling O' Connor

Massive congratulations to Aisling O’Connor who has been selected to play on the Ireland Team announced for the Billie Jean King Cup Europe/Africa Group III which takes place in Skopje, North Macedonia from 4th-9th July. Opens

More success for the Sutton crew on the national and international front this week.
Carrickmines hosts one of the biggest opens of the junior calendar and we had plenty involved.
Lucy Bell Hogan won singles and doubles in the 18s with Georgia L'estrange runner up in both.
William Kell had semi finals in both the 16s and 18s with Eoin Quinn making semis of 16s.
Markas Grazhulis made 2 semis and Jean Loughney also made semis of 14s.
Sally Flynn and Charlotte Maguire won the u14 doubles...4 years after winning the u10 one at the same event!
Lauren Wade made a final 2 weeks in a row this time in Bishopstown.

At the junior ITF event in Belfast, Lucy Bell Hogan, Georgia L'estrange, Caitlin Burke, Zara Burns, William Kell and Eoin Quinn have all made the main draw and now have a chance of world ranking points.
Emma Hickey finished her week in Belgium making quarters of both the u11s and U12s. Well done to everyone. More junior action this week in lansdowne and hopefully some senior success in Glasnevin.

As always if we miss anyone just let us know!

    Coaches Corner

Make it difficult to beat you!

It's always nice when your opponent gifts you a point from an unforced error. Make it your aim in your next match to miss as few shots as possible becoming more consistent and difficult to beat. Be that annoying girl or guy that people don't like to play because 'they just get everything back'

    How to use this tactic
    1. Add topspin or slice to your shots to increase control on the ball and also making it difficult for your opponent to return
    2. Build the rally patiently wearing your opponent down until they get tired or leave space open on the court to hit into
    3. Add height to your shots so you reduce the chances of hitting in the net.
    4. Chase down every ball regardless how far away it is. Show your opponent that you won't roll over easily and who knows, they could always miss that 'easy' smash if you make them play 1 more shot.

    How to counter the tactic
    1. Keep your opponent on the run. Dictate the rally so that you can make them tired and strike when the time is right
    2. Mix up the types of shots that you're hitting so you don't become predictable. They will be more likely to keep hitting it back in if you keep giving them the same shots over and over
