Success for our Junior tennis players
It was a busy weekend for our junior players with teams competing in the Northside Stars & Stripes finals on Saturday 28th May and in the Leinster Spring League U18 Finals on Sunday 29th May.
Stars & Stripes win for Sutton teams
Congratulations to our junior players who competed in the Northside Stars & Stripes finals on Saturday evening 28th May. The Girls U14s and U16s brought the U14 Shield home to Sutton.
We had 30 junior players aged between 12yrs and 16yrs take part in the campaign. The Northside Stars & Stripes league is coordinated by Allison Devally, Malahide LTC, and our players have been playing fixtures at home in Sutton and away in other Clubs. For many of our junior players this is the first time they represent Sutton on a team in an inter-club competition and it has become one of the most important competitions responsible for keeping children involved in tennis.
Well done to all the junior SLTC players who represented their club in this league and thanks you to the parents who helped out with the teams.
Georgia L’Estrange wins Mullingar Open
Sutton juniors Georgia L’Estrange and Lauren Wade played each other in the final of the girls U18 Singles in the Mullingar Junior Open last weekend. Congratulations to Georgia who took the title on the day. A great start for both of our junior players for the 2022 Summer Open season.

Following on the great win by our Stars & Stripes teams on Saturday evening, our juniors were back in action on Sunday afternoon, 29th May when we hosted the Leinster Tennis U18 Spring League finals.

Congratulations to Sarah Bolger, Sally Flynn, Charlotte Maguire and Jennifer O Connor who beat Celbridge 2-1 in the final. Well done also to Kate Lacy and Jean Loughney who also played for the team during the campaign.

All-Ireland Masters Inter-Club Championships 2022
Report from Sean O Dwyer
Castleknock provided excellent facilities for the 2022 finalists on Tuesday 24th May.
Fitzwilliam proved to be the best balanced overall squad and earned the title.
Sutton pairs in both the 70+ (Brendan Farrelly/ Dave Lawson) and 75+ (Joe Walsh/ Brendan Sutton/
/John Garvey) age-groups came up against some very good quality opposition and could only muster one win between them. More regular exposure with these "masters" would surely hone our skills.
The 80+ (Terry Donaghue/Sean O'Dwyer) pair registered three comfortable wins and two losses by the narrowest margins in finishing second to the section winners Templeogue by 95/93.
Sutton finished a disappointing fifth overall behind Fitzwilliam, Templeogue, Sandycove and Castleknock.
With some of our squad moving up into a higher age-group next season will see intense competition for team places.
League runner-up pennants were earned by the 80+ pair and the 70+ team of Brendan Farrelly, John McAvoy, Dave Lawson, John Tannam, John O'Shee and Paul Garvey. The 75+ league team was from Paddy Cooney, Martin O'Toole, Joe Walsh, Terry Donaghue, Sean O'Dwyer, and Barry O'Briain
