Midterm Tennis International at SLTC : Ireland v Scotland

Last weekend we hosted a 3 day event of Matchplay against some of Scotlands top Junior Players. They travelled over as a large group of 26 players as part of Adam Browns Tennis Academy based in the Central District of Scotland.

We had 30 players from Sutton take part with just over 170 matches played over the weekend. It came down to the last 2 matches of the whole weekend with Team Ireland getting the win in the end.

A great weekend for both teams and brilliant for our junior players to have the chance to compete against players from another country at such a young age. Everyone is already looking forward to the away trip to Scotland

    JUNIOR SQUASH

IRISH SQUASH COVID UPDATE NOVEMBER 1st 2021

Sport Ireland released updated guidance for the indoor sport sector which will remain in place until the end of February 2022 at least. See HERE

It is clear from the guidelines that a greater range of activities is feasible where all participants provide proof of immunity to Covid-19 infection.

The board of Irish Squash wants to ensure that our sport can restart for as many people as possible both within our clubs and at competitive events.

Therefore we have agreed that for any tournament that is open to players from more than one club, all participants must provide proof of immunity to Covid-19 as a condition of entry.  This applies to all senior and masters competitions. It also applies to any junior entering into a senior event.

The situation for U12 and U18 players in junior competitions is unclear at present and Sport Ireland have requested clarification on this from the Department of Sport. Whilst awaiting this information, we cannot proceed with junior competitions listed on our calendar. We appreciate that this is a difficult situation for many people and we will provide a further update as soon as possible.

At club level, it is feasible to operate pods of up to 6 players (for training sessions at the same time or for round robin events) without the need to prove immunity to Covid-19 infection. For any player who is not immune to Covid-19, they are restricted to one squash pod only within their club and may not play in any inter-club competition.

As always, anyone who is unwell with symptoms suggestive of Covid-19 infection (whether you are vaccinated or not) should stay at home and follow public health advice regarding testing for Covid. Social distancing, mask wearing indoors and hand hygiene measures should continue to be observed.

Please check our website and social media platforms for further updates.

    Booking System Reminders - Important!

Reminder to all members using the Airhall
As per booking rules: “A playing player cannot avail of two consecutive time slots even if the time slots are booked by an opponent in singles or separate players from the doubles partnership.” In simple terms, no player should stay in the Airhall for two consecutive hours.

There is a huge demand for indoor tennis in the winter months so we all need to be fair to other members. Thank you for your understanding.

Reminder re naming opponents on the Booking System

When booking courts online please name your opponents on the booking. Ideally name opponent/s when the court is being booked.

If you do not know the name of your opposition at the time of booking please amend your booking with the name/names before you play.
