SENIOR SQUASH
COVID-19 UPDATE – AUGUST 11TH – IRISH SQUASH
UPDATE ON COVID RESTRICTIONS FOR INDOOR SPORTS
Members of Irish Squash continue to attend weekly meetings with Sport Ireland, the Federation of Irish Sport and other indoor sport NGBs regarding the potential for change in current restrictions. Up until very recently, it is fair to say that we had no good news to report on. Therefore we welcome the confirmation from Minister of State for Sport, Jack Chambers, that a timeframe for easing of restrictions for indoor sports will be announced at the end of August. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we have to wait and see what the easing of restrictions will look like, before we can gain approval of our plans for squash from the Expert Group in Sport Ireland.
We will be planning a meaningful and sustainable return to squash for all our members which will fit alongside the Minister’s plan on how our society can “live with Covid”.
In the meantime, we ask you to support your clubs, get back on court for solo play or with a household member, organise a one-to-one coaching session (get ahead of the posse) and keep an eye on our website for further news.

REGISTER FOR FREE AND BEGIN YOUR REFEREEING JOURNEY TODAY
As you are aware the World Squash Officiating (WSO) platform: www.worldsquashofficiating.com developed through a partnership between the WSF and the PSA, was recently launched and we are delighted that it has already started to gather momentum.
There are now over 800 individuals from 70 countries registered on the platform who have begun their WSO officiating journey. WSO starts with a basic rules test and works through to the highest level of elite refereeing, and it is encouraging to see that over 150 of those registered have already moved beyond the basic level and have attained the theory aspects of the more advanced levels.
SQUASH BALL MACHINE
A great addition to Squash! We have two squash ball machines for SENIOR Solo Practice, with one more to follow. This is a superb way to practice on your own. It is advised that all players wear squash goggles while using the ball machine.

Teen Fitness Classes
As we are coming to the end of Summer, we will begin to wrap up our Teen fitness classes and we are delighted that they have gone so well throughout the summer and hope that we will be able to resume them in some manner as kids return to school. Our final week of Teen Classes will be the 23rd of August. We would like to hear from parents to find out if there is a common day and time that your kids would still be interested in coming down to keep up the great progress they have made. Email us at gym@suttonltc.com with your suggestions and feedback and hopefully we can keep this running throughout the year.
Gym Feedback and Suggestions
We would like to hear from our members about how you currently feel about the gym and what we can do to improve your experience, We have already heard from many of our regulars who attend our classes about what classes they would like to see when restrictions are eased and have begun making plans for this. What else would you like to see when restrictions ease further? Here are some of the plans we have in mind so let us know if you think you would be interested in them or if you have other suggestions by emailing gym@suttonltc.com.
- Group Seminars on Training and Nutrition
- Monthly Challenges
- Technique Workshops
- Group Weight Lifting Sessions
- Strength and Conditioning Sessions
Class Changes
Please note that evening and weekend classes will not be running during the week of the 21st-28th of August to facilitate the Senior Tennis Open. Morning classes will run as normal. During this time, our trainers will be available in the evening so it will be a great time to get a program made for you in the gym so if you cannot attend a class you will still be able to get your workout in. Just book in by either speaking to one of the team or emailing us at gym@suttonltc.com
